Reflections from the BTC Flower Launch & Future Roadmap

On Jan 23rd, 3pm UTC, BTC Flower had it’s official public sale. 30 seconds after opening, every single flower had found a new owner. Based on our channels, it seems everyone who wanted a flower got one. The 2009 supply was just enough to seed our OG community at the 5 ICP price point.

Immediately after purchase, buyers were holding a BTC Flower Seed, identical to every other in the collection, with no knowledge of what flower that seed will grow into.

This immediately led to a lively secondary market. With many folks taking a gamble on the rising floor of randomized seeds, BTC Flower accrued over 13,000 ICP in volume during the first 48 hours of launch. Many of the early traders were rewarded handsomely too. For reference, almost all the triple gold flowers were sold in this way, as seeds before their sellers knew what they would become.

After two days all the seeds grew into their final form as fully grown flowers. The launch went exactly as planned. No display or purchase errors, no bot attacks, and generally no hiccups. The sale did not cause a gas war on transaction fees. Hosting this gasless experience cost us only a few dollars in cycles. It’s simply an enormous privilege to be a project positioned where we are today.

Post Launch Stats

It’s now a little over two weeks since launch and BTC Flower is a top 3 DFINITY NFT project by overall volume. Floor price has been on the rise since initial sale at 5 ICP.

You may remember the goal for BTC Flower’s rarity breakdown, and we’re now pleased to show the official pseudorandom mint matched our projections to a tee. Here’s the official breakdown of how many BTC Flowers of each type exist.

  • Triple Gold — 5
  • Triple Diamond — 8
  • Triple Silver — 6
  • Triple Black — 8
  • Triple Green — 18
  • Triple White — 32
  • Double Gold — 58
  • Double Diamond — 83
  • Double Silver — 118
  • Double Black — 154
  • Double Green — 173
  • Double White — 260
  • No Pairing — 1086

Shoutout to the top sales thus far, each triples in the 99th percentile of rarity: Mint# 1582, a triple gold selling for 777 ICP, Mint# 524, a triple gold selling for 380 ICP, and mint#649, a triple diamond with the Visa tombstone and a blacked-out background selling for 300 ICP.

The price growth has been nice but let’s not forget the beauty of flowers is subjective, and solely up to the eye of the beholder. All flowers will hold the same function in the Flower Power DAO, which brings us to the aspect of buyer data from the public sale that has us most enthused, and that’s decentralization.

BTC Flower’s 100% fair launch led to a highly decentralized initial supply. Everyone, including the team, had the same opportunity to buy flowers at random and one at a time. The result is over 700 unique holders and a relatively flat distribution of flowers per wallet according to RaisinRank. That means most holders have only one flower.

It’s beautiful to see this level of decentralization out of the gate. The transaction volume is also on the rise which will only increase decentralization over time, bringing the utility of voting with flowers in the Flower Power DAO ever closer to a direct liquid democracy.

We are incredibly grateful to this community for the support that’s responsible for the success of this launch. With the foundation of this project on what’s very possibly the best technology stack Web3 has to offer, and with a core community of the strong few that recognize it, we couldn’t be more optimistic about the future we’re working towards.

Building a Future Together

BTC Flower is creating a lot of firsts for the IC ecosystem, and we’re not talking about broken records with volume and floor prices. BTC Flower is breaking the boundaries of what’s possible for an NFT project.

BTC Flowers are the first NFT on the IC that adapts to external signals. The fast moving flower petals the collection has seen this past week wasn’t a coincidence, but a consequence of rising BTC prices.

BTC Flower is also on track to be the first IC NFT that affords you voting rights in a DAO. The Flower Power DAO voting mechanism is under development and when released, will give the holders a say in the project’s direction. In the interim we’ve been using informal voting on discord. As per community suggestions on a recent discord vote for example, Ludo is considering Control, Maximalism, and Central Banks as new tombstone characteristics for the ETH Flower. As an important note, while voting remains informal, Ludo retains complete creative control over his work, as he always has done his works independently from start to finish.

“Me… Hand drawn/Oil Painting then reproduced with cad and other tools. I never had any assistant or help…” — Ludo

As a first step towards our Digital meets Physical part of our community-related goals, Ludo has pledged to bring a modern edition of BTC Flower to the streets of Paris as a mural based on one flower from the collection. The chosen flower was picked at random, and that winner was mint #1289. It’s a lovely double white flower with a green BTC, and the owner: JAngelton on Discord, one of the 6 winners of our first ever art contest, and proud genesis holder from the original whitelist sale.

In time there will be more opportunities to use digital art as a bridge for community-building and art creation in the physical world. We are currently working with the DFINITY Foundation on this to set up future art exhibitions. Ludo’s also exploring directions for BTC Flower swag with t-shirt manufacturers and options for physical items exclusive to genesis BTC Flower Holders.

Ongoing collaborations include DJ White Shadow, which will introduce a separate collection where flower petals dance to the beat of dozens of unique soundbites. You could check out the sneak peak with sound in this tweet:

Along the way, we’re exploring options for artists to add metadata upgrades to existing collections in lieu of the separate collections. These collaborations and possibilities for new directions gave us cause to explore metaverse territory for hosting community events such as parties and galleries. Updates are to follow in the coming months as we carve out space for our garden in the metaverse landscape.

We’ll have full details on the ETH Flower launch at the end of the month, including supply and flower design characteristics. ICP Flower, as per our roadmap is still planned for EoY to be lined up with DFINITY Devcon. Until then, we hope you’ll stay up in real time with us @btcflower and on discord.
